Wrong Jerry was in good shape here.
Jerry was just fine at these shows and this one also. I stood 5 feet from stage on phils side. The boys smoked this place and just like purple jell says was a blast. The park was fun the extra stuff made it even more fun. The dew is smokin and same thing with entire 2nd set.
I don't like commenting against others yet truth be told NO WAY WAS JERY PROPPED UP ON THE AMP. sorry just was not the case. And i saw every show this entire year along with every other year from summer of 82 till fall of 89. Yes he had bad days this is not one of them

Its hard to believe that I was at the same show as "Jazzman". It just goes to show how people experience things in different ways. For me this show was one of the most fun shows ever. The amphitheater is in the Astroworld Amusement park, meaning that the ticket got you in the park. It was quite an experience seein Deadheads lined up for the roller coasters and the other rides. ( I'll never forget my friend Howie, handing out doses on the way up to the first drop of the roller coaster sayin "Going Up??") This Show had a carnival atmosphere. Unlike Compton Terrace where the amphitheater sloped down from the amusement park, This amphitheater had its stage set up with the park and roller coaster behind it. So you got all the flashing lights behind the stage, and in between songs you could hear the screams of people on the roller coasters and the carnival, calliope music.
It had rained all day and was at least 100 degrees that night, so the humidity was close to 100%. Everyone and everything was dripping, which made it all the more surreal. the Full moon was rising as the Dead opened with an inspired Jack Straw>Row Jimmy.the chirping sound reffered to in the last review was actually from Bird Song, although it did overlap into LLR. The second set, while well played was a tad short, due to the humidity and heat I think. However, after drums is totally inspired with a sweet Wheel >Other one, capped off by a truly great DEW, with a Sugar Mag encore. I loved this show!!!

Jerry made it to the next show!
I doubted he would; he almost keeled over during the first half of the second set. He could barely play and needed to prop himself up against his amp. It was downright scary.

Listen for Birds before L.L. Rain.
Not a bad show at all, overlooked however is true. The SBD does not sound A+, but it is very listenable .

My first show
First weekend of college, dropped off my stuff in the dorm and drove to AstroWorld in Houston to walk in and hear Jack Straw. Mindblowing at the time, the first set ROCKS! Check out Deal, very loose and smoking. Bird Song is very very nice with pretty bird sounds...Scarlet>Touch segue is eerie in its sublimity. One of the most powerful Morning Dew's out there. Bob's guitar has a slightly out of tune twang throughout but I don't mind it. I can always tell this tape is on because of that. Sugar Mag very cool. The soundboard is crispy. Phil is trebly but the low end is there if your system can boost 125 Hz and down. A very good show. One of my all time fave's.
